Objective To investigate the association ofβ3-adrenergic receptor(β3-AR) gene polymorphisms of patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and the degree of coronary artery stenosis or instent Restenosis.Method A total of 179 patients( 41 patients with restenosis and 50 patients free from restenosis ) with angiographically confirmed CHD and 74 healthy controls were genotyped for the Trp64Arg polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism ( PCR/ RFLP) analysis. the levels of coronary artery stenosis were characterized by the numbers of diseased vessels and Gensini scores. The relationship between genotype and the levels of coronary artery stenosis or instent Restenosis were analysisd. Results Among the patients with CHD,67.6 % were wild-type Trp/Trp , 30.7 % were heterozygotes. The corresponding percentages in control group were 68.9 % ,31.1 %, respectively ( P>0.05) . Frequency of A allele were 17% in the CHD group and 15.5% in the control group ( P>0.05). In the CHD group, there was statistic significance among the distribution ofβ3-AR genetypes and the presence of high blood pressure(P=0.032),but the distribution for the genotypes ofβ3-AR genetic variants were not statistically different among variable number of coronary diseased vessels and the Gensini scores( P>0.05). The number of coronary diseased vessels had strongly positive correlation with the presence of diabetes(OR 2.13, P <0.05, 95%CI 1.03~4.39). also, the distribution for the genotypes ofβ3-AR genetic variants were not statistically different among the restenosis patients and the patients without restenosis( P>0.05). The restenosis had strongly positive correlation with the HDL-C(r=-1.452,P<0.05,OR 0.234 95%CI 0.06~0.99).Conclusionβ3-AR gene polymorphisms are associated with the presence of high blood pressure in CHD patients, but not the extent of coronary artery stenosis and restenosis among CHD patients.
