| Coronary artery disease is one of the most incident and fateful diseases in the world. Epidemiologic survey indicated that the classic risk factors such as smoking, hyperlipemia, high-level low density lipoprotein, diabetes, adiposis and age can not explain all the clinical and epidemiologic feature of coronary heart disease. Recently, many studies has manifested that the development mechanism of CHD was closely associated with immune reaction produced by infection. Periodontal disease is the most common infectious diseases in human beings. It has been known that the main pathological mechanism of periodontal disease is the local and systemic immune reaction induced by bacteria. Large epidemiologic data also indicated that the incidence of poor oral hygiene and periodontitis in the patients of CHD and peripheral atherosclerosis were higher than average. The basal study has confirmed that interaction among lipopolysaccharide——monocyte——cytokine may be the biologic foundation of intercommunication between periodontitis and atherosclerosis.IL-18,which has become a inflammatory of concern, consistents higher with serum periodontitis and coronary heart disease patients. As some studies suggested that acute and chronicity inflammation may influnce the level of Serum lipids,IL-18 induces atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease(CHD) as part of acute reaction. Therefore, this article will give a preliminary study on the relationship between atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease(CHD), based on the comparation of the level of Serum lipids and serum IL-18 before and after treatment。The results may provide evidence of the correlation between CHD and periodontal disease.Research oneMethods: The field investigation was carried out in the city of Xi'an and the surrounding areas. SPSS12.0 software was adopted to analyze the investigation results. Results: The factors most related to periodontitis in turn were age, smoking, having fiberfood, time of brushing teeth, sex. Conclusion: Smoking, oral hygiene, oral health knowledge make the important action on the epidemic of periodontal diseases.Research twoMaterials and Methods: 25 patients with both CHD and moderate to severe periodontitis received an intensive periodontal therapy. Blood samples were taken for measurement before and 3 months after periodontal therapy. IL-18 was determined by sensitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Serum lipids were determined by Auto Biochemistry Analysis. Results: After periodontal treatment, all patients demonstrate a significant improvement in clinical periodontal status include probing depth, clinical attachment loss and sulcus bleeding index (p<0.05). The level of IL-18 in sera showed a significant decrease(P <0.01). The level of total cholesterol(TC-C),low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglyeride cholesterol (TG-C) decrease (P<0.01,P<0.05,P<0.05), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) increases (P<0.05).Conclusion: The study provide the improvement of periodontal status may influence the systemic inflammatory markers such as IL-18 and serum lipids . An investigation with larger number of patients is needed to confirm the findings. |
