Background and aims It was suggested that GERD was an upper digestive tract motor disorder disease caused by various factors, the main mechanisms underlying GERD were the decrease of defensive mechanism resisting against the reflux and the increase of acid reflux's invasive effects to esophageal mucosa. This study analysis the performance of esophageal manomatry and 24h pH monitoring in 45 patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease,in order to investigate the changes of esophageal motility and acid reflux in GERD,compare the differences between NERD and EE,and analysis the relationship between them.Materials and Methods 45 consecutive patients diagnosed as GERD through typical symptoms such as acid reflux or heartburn and underwent esophageal manometry and 24h pH monitoring in our hospital were selected to this study.According to the performance of gastroscope,45 patients were divided into EE group including lOcases and NERD group including 35 cases.LES pressure was measured and the peristaltic amplitude of esophageal body were also measured at 18,13,8 and 3cm above LES by means of manometry.Meanwhile all patients underwent the ambulatory 24h pH monitoring. Results LESP and LESR of EE and NERD are both in the normal range,no significant difference between the two group. The pressure at18,13,8 and 3 cm above LES were Lower than the reference value.IEM was found in 30%among EE,62.5% among NERD pH+ and 36.8%among NERD pH-.No correlation was found between LESP and Demeester integral. The average age was 54.38±13.83 in NERD pH+,and 43.00±11.34 in NERD pH-,there was significant difference between the two groups.45.71%of NERD and 50%of EE were pH monitoring positive. The total percent of reflux time, the total number of reflux episodes, the number of reflux episodes lasting for more than 5 min the duration of longest reflux episode and Demeester integral in NERD and EE were higher than the reference value, but no significant differences were found between them. Conclusions GERD patients had normal LESP,lower esophageal body contraction amplitude, and IEM can be found, but no significant differences were found between NERD and EE.45.71%of NERD and 50%of EE were pH monitoring positive. The average age in NERD pH+ were significantly higher than NERD pH-.No correlation was found between LESP and Demeester integral.
