Objective To explore the relationship between invasion of pituitary adenoma and stromal cell-derived factor-1(SDF-1), and to investigate the role of SDF-1 in the progression of invasive pituitary adenoma. Methods 63 cases of pituitary adenoma were divided into the invasive group and the non-invasive group. Expression of SDF protein was detected by immunohistochemistry. Total RNA was extracted from tissue specimens and SDF-1 mRNA was detected by RT-PCR. The expression of SDF protein in the invasive group and the non-invasive group was analyzed. Furthermore, the differences among the expressions of SDF protein in variety classes pituitary adenoma were compared.Results1. SDF-1 protein was expressed and proved in the nucleus by immunohistochemistry method.2 The expression of SDF-1 protein in human invasive pituitary adenoma was higher than that of the non-invasive pituitary adenoma (P<0. 05). 3 The expression of SDF-1 mRNA in human invasive pituitary adenoma was higher than that of the non-invasive pituitary adenoma. (P<0. 05)Conclusion The expression of SDF is correlated with invasiveness of the tumor. It is important to investigate the expression of SDF-1 for decision the invasion and recurrence of the pituitary adenoma.
