| Objective To investigate the relationship between Insulin- like growth factor- 1 (IGF-I) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH)in patients with essential hypertension ( EH) .Methods (1)In 50 patients with EH(mean age 49±12 years;26 male,24 female) and 50 normal individuals(mean age 51±10 years;28 male,22 female),the serum level of IGF-I was measured using enzyme-linked Immunoassay(2)Doppler echocardiography was performed to measure parameters of LVEF,LVIDd,LVIDs,IVST,LVPWT,Early diastolic peak velocity(E) in cm/s, Atrial contraction related peak velocity (A) in cm/s and LVMI were calculated according to these parameters and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) was calculated based on parameters determined by echocardiography.( 3)Whether or not the merger in accordance with ventricular hypertrophy in hypertensive patients will be grouped with EH and EH-LVH . (4)The EH patients were divided into 3 groups according the level of blood pressure. One-way ANOVA was employed to identify the difference between Normal control group , EH and EH-LVH of LVMI and IGF-I. Possible relationship between serum IGF-I and LVMI were analyzed with univariate ANOVA.Results The IGF-I level was significantly higher in EH patients than in normal controls (P<0.05),the IGF-I level was significantly higher in EH-LVH patients than in EH patients ( P<0.05) and that in normal controls ( P<0.01) . There Exist a positive correlation between the IGF-I level and LVMI(r=0.45,P<0.05). IGF-I level of different blood pressure groups:the grade 2 IGF-I level is higher than the grade 1(p<0.05),and that in the grade 3 much higher than grade 2 and 1(p <0.01).LVMI level of different blood pressure groups:in the grade 3 much higher than grade 2 and 1(p <0.01). the grade 2 IGF-I level is higher than the grade 1(p<0.05),but there was no significant difference. Conclusion The positive correlation between serum IGF-I and EH or EH- LVH suggests that IGF-I may be involved in,and IGF-I closely related to the blood pressure level , this may show that serum IGF-I participates the pathophysiological process of essential hypertension,and probably play a very important role in the development of myocardial remodeling. |
