Femoral head necrosis is attracting more attentation due to its increased incidence and mutilation. Avascular necrosis of femoral head is a very common orthopedic disease, which was caused by breakdown of the blood supply to the femoral head Generally, avascular necrosis of the femoral head always happens around 30-50 years old and involves both sides. Its pathogenesis is mainly due to trauma, hormones replacement, alcohol abuse, hematonosis diseases, aeremia and so on, which damage the nutrional artery of the femoral head, and induce ischemia, degeneration, necrosis, breakdown of the bone trabecula, collapse of the femoral head and functional disturbance to the hip joint. Treatment of avascular necrosis of femoral head incude operative and nonoperative way. In this paper, we will review the avascular necrosis of femoral head from the aspects as follows: etiopathogenisis, pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, radiology, the staging of pathology, diagnosis and treatment.
