Purpose:Basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) is a growth factor which is generally distrbuted in skeletal muscle,and have biological effect on skeletal muscle growth and devel-opment,and play a critical role on physiological and pathological process of skeletal mus-cle.Present study indicates that bFGF modulates skeletal myoblast functons and plays a key role in myoblast proliferation and inhibiting its differentiation.Skeletal muscle injury is the frequency disease in sports.There are many treatment methods on skeletal muscle injury , massage is a safe economic and effective treatment method.Present study indicates that mas-sage can increase skeletal satellite cells during the skeletal muscle injury and regeneration , and promote skeletal muscle recovery .The present study investigated the time course changes in bFGF protein expression and the effects of massage on bFGF in skeletal muscle injury and reparative process,discussed the mechanism of action on massage healing skeletal muscle injury.Method:Twenty one adult male Sprague-Dawley rats are divided into seven groups at random: control group(n=3);acute traction injury group (n=12),which was further divided into 1h,2d,5d,7d postinjury groups;massage group (n=6) was divided into 3d and 5d postmassage groups. Rats'gastronemius acute traction injury model are established by self-made facility. Massage treatment started on second day postinjury. The bFGF expression change was meas-ured by immunohistochemistry and image analysis system.Results:(1)In rats'gastronemius,bFGF protein level increased in acute traction injury group at 1h and 2d postinjury ,reached the peak on 7th day after injury.(2)In rats'gastronemius,bFGF expression level lower afer 3-day-massage than spontaneous recovery group on synchroniza- tion ,also there was a big difference between 5-day-massage group and spontaneous recovery group on synchronization.(3) By macroscopic observation , massage reduced the adhesions not only between skin and muscle but also between gastroenemius and soleus muscle,and reduced the accrementition of connective tissue. By light microscope observation, massage reduced the inflammatory reaction and cellular necrosis and cicatricle repair after muscle injuried, enhance -mented muscle cell regeneration and muscle tissue repairation,shortened the repair phase.Conclusion:The time course changes in bFGF protein level was showed after acute traction injury . Massage had an effect on bFGF expression and had a significant effect on injuried skeletal muscle.
