Study On Adult Somatotype Of Xiangxi Miao-Nationality Adults With The Heath-Carter Method

Objective:Somatotype is the characteristics of every part of the body and an imporant index to assess people's physique and stature.The influencing factors on somatotype are age, environment, gender,habitat,custom,health and so on.Now,the measurement and research of somatotype are more and more widely used in the relationship between environment and human,teenagers' state of nutrition and development , sports and disease' prevention. The Miao natinality of our country are extensively distributed in the southwest of China where there are varied topography and climates,and the traffic is not convenient as well. People of the nationality have distinct custom. This paper is about the research on the somatotype of Miao nationality in Xiangxi.And we measure out the numerical value to supplement the basic physique data bank of Chinese people.Method:The heath-carter anthropometric methods adopted internationally were used to survey 10 variables of 300 adults(men and women was 150 respectively) Miao nationality in xiangxi, including stature, body weight, triceps skinfold, ubscapuluar skinfold, iliospinale anterius skinfold, calf skinfold, maximum biceps circumference, calf circumference, breadth of the distal epiphysis of the humerus, epicondylar breadth of the femur. which amount to ten indexes. And according to the numerical value of their endomorphic factor,mesomorphic factor and ectomorphic factor can be maesured out as well. Thus,we can obtain the somatotype value of adults of Miao nationality in Xiangxi.Result: Male,the data is 2.79-5.23-2.40, a balanced mesomorphic type. Female, the data is 4.45-4.53-2.14, a balanced endomorphy-mesorphy type. The mesomor- phic values of both male and female are large and the male's is larger than the female's(P<0.01). While the endomorphic factor of female is obviously larger than the male's and there is significant differences between them(P<0.01). There is also significant differences in ectomorphic factor between them(P<0.05). All these figures indicate that both men and women of Miao nationality in Xiangxi have well-developed skeletons and muscles. Besides,women have chubby stature. The linea-rity degree of Men and women isn't high and they are short in stature . This reflect on their somatotype meaning shortness and strong,which has something to do with their habitat and custom that show a certain regional diversity.Conclusion: Miao natonality in Xiangxi, the average value of the male's somatotype is 2.79-5.23-2.40, belonging to the balanced mesomorphy.Miao nationality in Xiangxi, the average value of the female's somatotype is 4.45-4.53-2.14, belonging to the balance endomorphy to mesomorphy type.
