Animal experimental partObjective To investigate the feasibility of rapidly making rabbit model of fibrocystic breast disease and focused ultrasound irradiation on mammary hyperplasia. Methods Estradiol benzoate and Progesterone were given intramuscularly to New Zealand white rabbits, during different periods, the preparation of the model ,its available time, pathological type and estrogen receptor alpha distribution were observed.Fibrocystic breast disease models were established in 20 female New Zealand rabbits. using focused ultrasound irradiation either side of the breast randomly, the other side as the control group, pathological changes, nerve fiber degeneration and Apoptosis were observed at different periods. Results After 20-25 days, models were estabished, which fullfiled the features of fibrocystic breast disease, making ovariectomy unnessisarily, the model could be maintained for 135 days. After Focused ultrasound irradiationed the targeted breasts, pathological improvement, apparent cell apoptosis, demyelination of the nerve fibers, axonal atrophy were showed. Conclusions The model has the same pathological feature with human rapid; modeling is feasible, with high successful rate.Focused Ultrasound can reverse rabbit breast hyperplasia, which is expected to become a time-saving and new method with long-term pain relief.Clinical partObjective To investigate the feasibility of focused ultrasound irradiation on fibroadenoma with fibrocystic disease in the breast..Methods After focused ultrasound irradiation on fibroadenoma with fibrocystic disease in the breast, we regularly follow up fibroadenoma size, mastalgia and the skin. Results 87.5% fibroadenomas volume are stable or decreased, pain in all patients were significantly alleviated or disappeared. Conclusions It is feasible to treat fibroadenoma under ultrasound-guided focused ultrasound; and pain can be significantly reduced or disappeared by focused ultrasound.
