ObjectiveIn the modern enterprises, only healthy employees are likely to bring the greatest benefits to the enterprises. The health problems of employees will, directly or indirectly, cause huge losses to the enterprises. With the accelerated process of industrialization, the lifestyle of enterprise employees is changing, the incidence of chronic diseases is rising obviously, such as overweight and obesity, fatty liver, metabolic syndrome, and the younger age of onset tends to give a serious threat to the employees'health. An employee without a healthy body will not be able to adapt to the requirements of the modern society, affecting the development of the enterprises. This study aims at having a good understanding and grasping the employees'health status, through a survey of the health lifestyles of the employees and collection of their physical examination data for analysis, and providing a basis for the development of and implementation of targeted health education and health promotion strategies so as to encourage enterprises to focus on the health status of employees, enhance the self-health awareness of employees, gradually change their bad habits.MethodsThe study targets included 2271 employees at the physical examination center in a Changchun City hospital who received the physical examination in June 2008, which was to survey the general conditions of employees, namely, lifestyles including smoking, drinking, blood pressure, weight, MBI changes, the results of routine blood, biochemical test, electrocardiogram and B-scan etc.. A database was built using Excel, and SPSS13.0 software package was applied to statistical analysis of the data, and the statistical methods adopted included the descriptive analysis, Chi-square test and CMH Chi-square test. P<0.05 statistically significant. Results and DiscussionThe 2271 people of survey targets included 163 cadres and 2108 workers, of whom 1496 were male, accounting for 65.9% of the total number, 775 female, 34.1%, mainly from 31 to 50 years old.The results showed that, among 2271 persons tested, there were 1881 people who were abnormal accounting for 82.8% of the total number. In anomaly detective rate the first 10 indicators were overweight and obesity, fatty liver, abnormal electrocardiogram, high blood lipids, hypertension, high blood sugar, high uric acid, kidney stones, gallbladder polyps and gallbladder stones, which were respectively 48.4%, 34.8 %, 29.9%, 29.9%, 14.4%, 11.6%, 9.4%, 9.4%, 6.7% and 3.3%. The top ten indicators of abnormal high incidence, except for abnormal electrocardiogram, gallbladder stones, its detective rates showed that males were higher than females, the difference between men and women was significant. These ten abnormal indicators were increasing with age, showing an upward trend. In the high incidence of abnormalities in the cadres and workers overweight and obesity, abnormal electrocardiogram, high blood lipids, uric acid were significantly higher, in some unusual indicators changes, the abnormal rate of the cadres was higher than the workers.Depending on the metabolic syndrome diagnostic criteria from Diabetes Branch of Chinese Medical Association on: an individual who possesses, any three or all of the components from "obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, blood lipid disorder" may be diagnosed as metabolic syndrome. The enterprise employees who had a high-risk metabolic syndrome were detected to be 45.1%, metabolic syndrome 10%. The difference metabolic syndrome between males and females was statistically significant, and men were more likely to develop into the metabolic syndrome, women were protective factors of metabolic syndrome. The detective rate of metabolic syndrome of different age groups is statistically significant. Through the CMH Chi-square Test the results show that increasing with age, gradually increasing(P <0.05). In the survey of smoking and drinking, smokers were 801 people, accounting for 35.3% of the number of physical examination, including 796 men, accounting for 53.2%; 1113 with drinking habits, accounting for 57.6%, of them males were 1051, the proportion of 70.3%, female 62, accounting for 8%; among the employees with all ages male smoking rates and alcohol consumption rates were much higher than female, drinking rate of male and female was generally higher than the smoking rate. The correlative analysis for smoking, drinking and abnormal target detective rate and high detective rate of abnormal indicators showed that, compared smoking and drinking group with non-smoking and non-drinking group, detective rate of abnormal indicators, high incidence of 10 kinds and abnormal metabolic syndromes were all higher, statistically significant difference. These lifestyles and chronic diseases were closely related to daily life behavior, which was the long-term accumulation of health risk factors and synergy results. First, it should change their concepts to take proactive prevention, assess employees disease risk factors, and classify according to employees health status, and depend on their employees located in different categories to eliminate the risk factors affecting health, meanwhile, to carry out individual health guidance, to develop a good lifestyle, and ultimately achieve self-management, to improve health.ConclusionsThis results showed that, among 2271 employees in a Changchun enterprise who received physical examination, abnormal 1881 people were detected, accounting for 82.8% of the total number, chronic non-communicable diseases overweight and obesity, fatty liver, abnormal electrocardiogram, high blood lipids, hypertension, high blood sugar, metabolic syndrome etc., were major causes which affected the health of employees in some enterprise in Changchun City. Therefore, total health status of employees was not optimistic, it should be given to high attention.High abnormal indicators were related to gender, age, nature of work, in addition to ECG abnormalities, in high incidence of abnormal indicators males were than females; high detective rate of abnormal indicators increased with age, indicating that chronic non-communicable diseases which brought health hazards to the employees were related to the age, and found that some diseases tended to be younger, which should be given to high attention. Smoking, drinking and unhealthy lifestyles had an influence on overweight and obesity, fatty liver, high blood cholesterol, high blood sugar, hypertension, metabolic syndrome. Smoking, drinking employees detection rate of abnormal indicators were higher than non-smokers and non-drinking crowd, smokers and drinkers easily suffered from various chronic non-communicable diseases, unhealthy living habits were closely related to chronic non-communicable diseases .Health education and health management implemented in the group is an effective way to reduce their health risk factors, and improve the total health of enterprise employees.
