Objective:To observe and estimate the clinical effects on patients with advanced malignant solid tumor of cytokine-induced killer cells(CIKs). Methods:Peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) were abtained from 50ml of peripheral blood from the patients. According to the classic culturing method reported in the literature, CIK cells were induced by culturing the PBMCs with a series of cytokines. After strict quality control, CIK cells were injected back intravenously to the patients after to examine the changes of immunity indexes, tumor markers, life quality and the Karnofsky's grade. A one-year follow-up was carried out. Results:the decreasing rate of the most valuable tumor markers among the 14 patients with abnormally increase of tumor markers before CIK therapy was 57.14%;flow cytometry tests showed that the percentage of CD3, CD4 and CD16CD56(NK cells) increased without significance (p>0.05), and that of CD8 ascended slightly without statistical significance(p>0.05);while no statistical significance was observed in the score of'globel health'(p>0.05), the levels of three syptoms, including fatigue, pain and appetite loss, went down significantly after the treatment (p<0.05);KPS scores rose with no statistical significance(p>0.05); three patients died during the follow-up year and the survival rate for one year was approximately 85.7%.Conclusion:As a kind of biological therapy for tumors, the most valuable role that CIK cells play in treating advanced malignant solid tumors seems to be to alleviate clinical symptoms and improve quality of life. It is logical that a more modulated application is necessary and a long-term outcomes should be detected.
