[Objective] In recent years, the incidence of thyroid disease, in particular thyroid cancer, was continuing the trend of higher. The cause of this might be largely due to the increased detection rate. Therefore, imaging examination of thyroid diseases is receiving increasing attention of doctors and patients. Color Doppler ultrasound is the first choice of thyroid disease for preoperative examination, but, because of its "congenital defect", it is inferior in getting enough information in complex surgery of thyroid cancer .CT, however, avoided the bones, gas, etc. It give great helps in determining the retrosternal goiter, neck and neck lymph node metastasis, as well as the distinguish of important anatomical structure.[Methods] For the past one and a half years , 300 cases who are confirmed thyroid cancer by pathology with preoperative CT scan were analyzed retrospectively. The primary foci, lymph node metastasis as well as the relationship of the foci and the surrounding tissue were summarized and compared with pathological results. So, we can summarized preoperative CT scan features of thyroid cancer.[Result] Shape, density, with or without calcification, of the primary tumor and the metastatic lymph nodes show their unique performance in the CT scan. The primary foci of thyroid cancer and metastatic lymph nodes can be significantly improved by CT scan . But it is more important that the relationship of the tumor and the anatomical structure around it would be provided. Thyroid cancer generally have irregular shape and can be associated with calcification within it. Lymph node metastasis were usually located around the jugular vein.It is not easy to make sure the relationship of the foci and its surrounding tissue.[Conclution] 1. CT scan has its unique characteristics in preoperative diognosis of thyroid cancer.2. The primary foci of thyroid cancer and metastatic lymph nodes can be significantly improved by CT scan .3. Thyroid cancer compared with other tumors, are less capable of violations of the surrounding tissue, in particular, a violation of the neck arteries is rare. And it is confirmed by this article. So the majority reporting that announced the standard of violations of thyroid cancer and the arounding tissues shound be further confirmed.4. CT scan and three-dimensional imaging can help us to do better in the preoperative assessment and treatment program.
