Objective To observe the clinical features of children infected with influenza A (H1N1).Method We performed a retrospective study of 51 confirmed cases of children infected with influenza A (H1N1) who were hospitalized from October 9,2009 to December 20 2009.Results:Among the 51 cases,20 cases were female and 31 male.40 cases under 5 years old,25 cases under 3 years old and 12 cases under 1 year. (1)The main symptoms and signs of children infected with influenza A (H1N1) were cough, fever, throat congestion, tonsil enlargement, pulmonary rales. Abnormal data were found on white blood count(19), ESR(3), CRP(15), and a few cases showed damaged liver and renal function and T cell subset. There were no statistical differences between different sex and different age groups in symptoms and signs. (2)43 patients were treated with Oseltamivir, after 2 days(median:range 1to 11 days) the temperature became normal. (3)18 patients were critically ill and 22 patients were severe case.34 patients were complicated with pneumonia,4 with encephalitis,2 with ARDS,4 with sepsis and 2 with MODS. There were no obvious distinctions among the critical case, severe case and common case in age, the course of disease, the number of existing illnesses, abnormal white blood count and elevated CRP. (4) 44 patients recovered,6 patients quit the treatment,1 patient died.Conclusion:The main symptoms of children infected with influenza A (H1N1) were cough and fever. There were no obvious differences among the critical cases, severe and common ones in age, the course of disease,, the number of existing illnesses, white blood count and CRP.
