| Objective The aim of this study is to present our experience with two-staged revision in the management of the infected hip and knee arthroplasty. Methods Between June 2008 and March 2010 the replacement of the infected arthroplasty in two stages was performed in 14 patients. The mean follow-up after revision was 11 months. Results None of 14 patients had a recurrence of the infection. The revision increased the Harris Hip Score from 48.9 points preoperative to 82.9(44-95)points postoperative, and also increased the mean postoperative HSS from 42.5 points preoperative to 84.25 postoperative. One case had femoral fracture. Conclusion Two-stage reconstruction of the infected hip and knee is useful and effective because of highe rate of eradication of the infection and good postoperative functional result in treating infected THA or TKA. |
