The Study Of Effect On Reproductive Function Of Male Rabbits With Different Hernia Mesh

Object Comparative study on male rabbits of the effect to reproductive functions and its different existence by the four different (polypropylene, polyester, single side and double side expanded polytetraflouroethylene, ePTFE) meshes which used in tension-free inguinal hernia herniorrhaphy.Methods The thirty-six homogeneous adult male New Zealand's rabbits were randomly divided into 6 groups:Normal group (A), Control group (B, only pure cable); Polypropylene group (C), Polyester group (D), Single-sided ePTFE group (E), Double-sided ePTFE group (F). The meshes are around the vas deferens in the last four groups. After 3 months, the testis and spermatic cord of every rabbit in the 6 groups were cut away and made pathological section, the epididymis were extracted sperm to biopsies. According to the experimental results the statistical analysis were finished.Results 1. Significant differences (P＜0.05) were observed among the six groups,the sperm number and a+b class sperm's percentage of group A is the highest.2. Significant differences (P＜0.05) were observed within the last groups, the sperm number and a+b class sperm's percentage of group F is the highest.3. No significant differences (P>0.05) were observed between the group A and group B, the sperm number and a+b class sperm's percentage of the two groups is equal on the whole.4. Pathological section showed the last four groups' inflammation significantly serious than the other two groups'.The inflammation of Group E and F is less serious than group C and D. Testicular atrophy was appeared in the last four groups,and which pathological changes were stunted or sperm cells'reducing, hyperemia extending leydig in a few rabbits.Conclusion The mesh has effct on sperm production and sperm motility of male rabbit in different degree. In the four kind of meshes, the sperm nummber and vigor of ePTFE group significantly were better than the other three groups. The Daul-ePTFE mesh's effect on male sperm production and sperm vigor of rabbit is the minimum in the last four groups. Traditional inguinal hernia herniorrhaphy has no influence on male reproductive functions of rabbit.
