Objective:To explore the enhanced characteristics of renal tumors with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS).To assess the capacity of to detect renal tumors compared with contrast-enhanced helical computed tomography (CECT)Methods:CEUS and CECT were performed in 52 consecutive patients with renal masses. CEUS images and digital cine-clips of CEUS were evaluated by two independent readers blinded to CEUS and CECT findings. After evaluation of image according to size, shape, edge, envelope, internal echo, blood flow, enhanced mode and whether the characteristics of liquerfaction necrosis of the renal lesions. The readers were asked to assign a diagnosis according to a five-grade scale (1, definitely absent; 2, probably absent; 3, indeterminate; 4, probably present; 5, definitely present).52. Histologic diagnosis of renal tumor was surgically obtained in all patients. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was employed to assess the overall confidence of diagnosis of renal tumor with three diagnosis. Results:â‘ Enhancement patterns of CEUS and CECT in the majority of renal cancers showed as presence of fast wash-in and fast wash-off. In the malignant renal tumors and benign renal tumors,There was no significant difference between CEUS and CECT in the diagnosis for enhanced signal intensity.â‘¡It was shown that the ROC curve for diagnosis with combination of CEUS and CECT was closer to the ideal discrimination function than those with CEUS and CECT alone. The area under ROC curve for diagnosis with combination of CEUS and CECT (0.905) was larger than that with CEUS (0.887) or CECT(0.874).Conclusions:CEUS and CECT showed consistent results in demonstrating enhancement patterns and enhanced signal intensity of malignant renal tumors. CEUS and CECT may also be of value in evaluating and differentiating renal tumors, combinantion of CEUS and CECT is better than else of both.
