Objective: To study whether probiotics on irritable bowel syndrome whether related to the control of the intestinal bacterial overgrowth and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is associated with IBS.Method: 70 patients with irritable bowel syndrome diaguosed by Romeâ…¢criteria includ. The control population consisted of sex-and age-matched healthy subjects without irritable bowel syndrome symptoms(n=45). All subjects underwent glucose hydrogen breath test to detect the basal value, Record-based breath hydrogen concentration and the incidence and SIBO-positive patients with symptoms of the existence of SIBO in IBS patients to give 2 weeks Bifido treatment, recorded after treatment in patients with symptoms of breath hydrogen concentration and improve the situation for statistical analysis. Results: IBS group of 70 cases, 49 cases showed SIBO, the SIBO-positive rate was 70% in the control group of 45 cases, 4 cases there SIBO, SIBO-positive rate of 8.9%, in comparison with a statistically significant difference (P<0.05 ). IBS group higher than the control mean breath hydrogen concentration group, the two groups was statistically significant difference (p1-5<0.05). SIBO-positive patients on the breath hydrogen concentration after treatment compared with before treatment decreased, the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05).Conclusions: IBS patients with SIBO positive rate and fasting breath hydrogen concentration was significantly higher than the control groups. Indicating symptom improvement in patients related to SIBO was controlled. The present case-control study showed an epidemiological association between irritable bowel syndrome and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
