| Objective To assess the spontaneous pregnancy state of infertile women with endometrial polyps after hysteroscopic polypectomy. Methods We retrospectively study all the infertile inpatients in Women's Hospital,School of Medicine,Zhejiang University from January 2007 to December 2008 according the inclusion criteria:1) primary or secondary infertility With endometrial polyps diagnosed by ultrosonography, hysteroscopy and pathology.2)age under 35 years, at least 12 months of infertility, and from 3 to 18 months of follow-up with attempts to conceive after hysteroscopic polypectomy. The endometrial polyp/polyps appeared to be the only reason to explain their infertility after infertility workup of the couples. Totally 52 cases were enrolled in this studyResults All 52 subjects were found to have endometrial polyps in ultrosonography, confirmed by histologic examination after hysteroscopic polypectomy. The mean age of 52 patients was 29.77±3.00 years and the mean length of infertility was 3.54±2.12 year.32 patients were primary infertility and 20 patients secondary infertility.16 patients had single endometrial polyp<1 cm and 36 patients had bigger or multiple endometrial polyps. Spontaneous pregnancy rates in the total population of the study after the procedure in 18 months were 71.2%(37/52), especially in the first 6 months.about 61.5%(32/52). Age is the only protective factor for post-polypectomy pregnancy rate by the ENTER Logistic regression analysis with p=0.025 and OR value=0.740.Conclusion Hysteroscopic polypectomy for endometrial polyps appeared to improve fertility and increase spontaneous pregnancy rates in infertile women with no other reason to explain their infertility.. The age is a protective factor for spontaneous pregnancy rates, but the size or number of the polyps, type of infertility seems not to have relationship with that. The majority of patients have successful conception in the first 6 months after surgery. |
