Objective In order to investigate the clinical manifestation, risk factors, prophylaxis measures, treatment and prognosis about hemorrhagic cystitis after unrelated donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Methods We retrospectively analyzed data on 168 patients who underwent URD-HSCT at our center from 2000 trough 2008.Results 27 of 168 (16.1%) patients developed HC, and the median onset time is 40 (8-89) days after transplantation. All patients were cured by treating with alkalinization of the urine and hyperhydration with intravenous glucose solution and electrolytes and urethral catheterization to bladder washout. Conclusion 5 of 168 (2.98%) patients developed early onset hemorrhagic cystitis, and 22 patients (13.17%) developed late onset hemorrhagic cystitis. In univariate analysis, the risk factors for HC were male, acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD), HLA mismatch and≥30-year-old. In multivariate analysis, male, acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) and≥30-year-old were the risk factors for HC...
