Adenomyosis is a common and difficult gynecological disease. The main clinical manifestations consists the secondary dysmenorrheal with chronic progressive aggravation, menorrhagia, menstruation, sexual intercourse pain, lumbosacral pain, anus bulge, and local nodule or mass with tenderness. Those symptoms seriously affect the patients'work and study, moreover it reduces the living quality in a large extent. The pathogenesis of adenomyosis is complicated, and so far, the exact etiology and pathogenesis remain unclearly. There is no better way in western medicine to treat it other than the radical surgery , which applies only to older patients without fertility requirements. As to western medications, sexual hormones is often adopted, but there are serious side effects that cause patients intolerant, such as nausea,vomitting,as well as liver and kidney damage. So it is just highlighted the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of adenomyosis. This paper aims to investigate the clinical efficacy and its unique advantages of the umbilical therapy with modified amber powder orally in treating adenomyosis, in order to provide a better clinical choice with the Chinese medicine.In this study, 60 cases of adenomyosis were randomly divided into two groups. One was the treatment group included 30 cases. Clinical efficacy of umbilical therapy with orally taken modified amber powder was observed. The other group also included 30 cases, took mifepristone orally as controlled observation. The survey consisted many aspects to investigate the mechanism and advantages of the treatment group. The results showed that: the treatment group could significantly improve the clinical symptoms of adenomyosis, and the total effective rate was 93.33%, which was 63.33% in the control group. There was significantly difference of the two groups(P<0.05). There was significantly difference of the two groups in comparation of total TCM symptoms score and dysmenorrhea integration (P<0.05); it showed apparent distinction in uterine volume before and after the treatment when compared within the two group (P <0.05),but not that of the inter-groups (P> 0.05). These results indicate that the umbilical therapy with modified amber powder orally in treating adenomyosis has significant effect. From the view of concept of wholism of traditional Chinese medicine, internal and external treatment combination and overall regulation ,this therapy in treating adenomyosis highlights the advantages of the Chinese medicine, thus it is worthing further research and clinical promotion.
