Comparison Observation Of Anhydrous Alcoho And Botulinum Toxin Type A Injections Of Pectoralis Major Muscle Spasm In Patients After Stroke

Objective To evaluate the efficacy, the beginning time and last time of the therapeutic effect , the adverse reaction ,and the cost of anhydrous alcohol and botulinum toxin type A(BTXA)injections for the treatment of Pectoralis major muscle spasm in patients after stroke .Methods 96 patients with hemiplegia and Pectoralis major muscle spasm after stroke were internalized two groups by the will of themselves, the anhydrous alcohol therapy group(48 cases) and the BTXA therapy group(48 cases). The patients in the anhydrous alcohol therapy group were given intramuscular of anhydrous alcohol in the Pectoralis major muscle spasm and regularly physical therapy,While those in the BTXA therapy group were given intramuscular of BTXA in the Pectoralis major muscle spasm and regularly physical therapy. Any -one whose efficacy is bad of the two groups ,if agreed ,given reinjection. Patients were assessed by the modified Ashworth scale(MAS) for spasticity before and 1 month, 2 months and 3 months after the therapy . Record the begining time and last time of the therapeutic effect , the adverse reaction ,and the cost . Results The MAS improves obviously between the anhydrous alcohol therapy group and the BTXA therapy group 1 month after the injection(p<0.05) ,but the therapy effect is not different between the two groups (Pï¹¥0.05). The MAS is obvious different between the non-reinjection of the anhydrous alcohol therapy group and the BTXA therapy group 2 months or 3 months after the therapy(p<0.05).But the MAS is not obvious different between the reinjection of the anhydrous alcohol therapy group and the BTXA therapy group 2 months or 3 months after the therapy(Pï¹¥0.05).The therapeutic effect of the anhydrous alcohol therapy group begins faster , about one day ,last time is shorter ,about 2-3 monts, the adverse reaction is more ,but cost less ,which can reject and reach the same effect as the BTXA . The therapeutic effect of the BTXA therapy group begins slowlier , about two day ,last time is longer ,about 3-6 monts, the adverse reaction is less ,but cost more .Conclusions The efficacy of anhydrous alcohol and botulinum toxin type A(BTXA)injections for the treatment of Pectoralis major muscle spasm in patients after stroke is good ,but the therapeutic effect of the anhydrous alcohol therapy group begins faster , which can reject and cost less , but the last time of the the anhydrous alcohol is about 2-3 months .
