ObjectiveTo survey the status of the head nurses job burnout and professional psychological needs, to explore the relationship between psychological needs and job burnout, and to compare the professional psychological needs with the job burnout.MethodsUsing questionnaires to the head nurses in the post serving more than six months in the eight triple A general hospitals in Shanxi Province. With a general questionnaire, Maslash Burnout Inventory, head nurses professional psychological needs questionnaire, the job burnout and professional psychological needs were investigated. SPSS 18.0 and SAS9.1 software were used for statistical analysis, including the statistical methods:descriptive statistics, t test, H test, variance analysis, canonical correlation analysis.Results1 Head nurses mild burnout more than 147,55.6%.2 The comparison of the head nurses burnout factors and the Holmes Rock norm is:consistent with the norm of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization lower than the norm, job satisfaction is higher than the norm.3 For Different age, nursing age, title, education, working life,the difference of the burnout factors is not statistically significant.4 For different age, nursing age, title, education, working life, the difference of the burnout level is not statistically significant.5.The top three head nurses professional psychological needs are to increase revenue, access to further learning opportunities and career development; for the head nurses of different ages, nursing age, title, education, working years, the focus is on different psychological needs, low-seniority and low care age, low grade, low working age, high education tend to further learning opportunities to upgrade themselves. On the contrary, tend to work stability and improving the working environment and conditions.6 The concerns are different for different degrees of occupational psychological needs of head nurse burnout,the zero burnout interest for further learning opportunities, the mild burnout concerned about job stability, medium and high degree of burnout concerned with improving the working environment and conditions.7 The characteristics of head nurses, burnout needs of each factor and canonical correlation analysis, the first and second canonical variable is significant, the cumulative explained 66.21% of information.8 (1) With the more serious emotional exhaustion, longer working life and the lower education, the head nurses's greatest demand for their work is on the exchange, to be followed by needs of sympathy and understanding of the personal matters, further learning opportunities on the minimum requirements, for professional development and promotion needs second. (2) Young, short nursing age, low title head nurses have the greatest demand on the work exchange, promotion, the personal issue sympathized and understood needs for the second, stable job demand to be minimal.ConclusionThe top three ranking professional psychological needs of the head nurse of the more serious job burnout, is to increase revenue and get opportunities for further learning and career development; for different levels of job burnout the emphases of professional psychological needs is different; head nurse characteristics, occupational burnout factors associated with career needs turn into relation.Suggestions:Increasing the head nurses'salary, creating a good nursing profession environment for them, providing more opportunities for further education and learning, managing their career,so as to enhance the nurse's personal sense of accomplishment and satisfaction, to reduce or to prevent their burnout. This study is to provide a theoretical basis to take appropriate measures to reduce the head nurse burnout, to meet the psychological needs.
