Gastric cancer is the most common malignant tumor all over the world, especially in China. Its incidence,which in the second place, is only lower than lung cancer. The death rate continued to hold a variety of malignant tumors of the first current. The main treatment of gastric cancer is surgical extirpation.but the postoperative survival rate is large difference in different hospital. The Five-year survival rate is 30%-50% in general hospital. The method of treatment of gastric cancer is a combined treatment in recently that include Biological treatment of immune,surgical resection of the tumor and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy。Gastric cancer is becoming a hotspot of cancer research. Gastric cancer is a multi-factor, multi-complex process of gene result. A variety of biological molecules, a number of biological signal transduction pathways may act on gastric cancer development.The Notch gene was named after an irregular structure of the wing blades in Drosophila melanogaster in 1919. Notch is a highly conserved family of transmembrane receptors and transcription factors that are key players in several developmental processes. Notch signaling plays an essential role in diverse biological processes during development and in pathogenesis of diseases ranging from cancer to cerebrovascular disorders. Notch signaling pathway has become research focus which included the developmental biology research, cell biology, immunology, hematology and oncology and other fields.The positive rate of notch1 was significantly higher in gastric cancer than in normal gastric tissue, and closely related to tumor size, differentiation grade, depth of invasion and vessel in vasion.The fourth group of Notch (Notch4) was found only in mammals.notch4 is different from other three Notch protein which have small molecular weight, intracellular short featuresIt is the reason for us to study that the great divergence of Notch4, fromthe other three Notch genes.Objective:To explore the relations between expression of notch4 protein in human gastric cancer and clinical pathological features an prognosis.Method:the expression of notch4 protein were detect in 64 cases of gastric carcinoma and 21cases of normal gastric mucosa tissue by tissue immuno-histochemical. It correlations with the clinical pathological notch4 protein in gastric carcinoma was assessed.The log-rank survive alanalysis was used to evaluate the relationship between the different groups.Results:The positive expression rate of notch4 protein was significantly higher in gastric cancer than in normal gastric tissue (78.13%vs38.10% P<0.05), The expression of notch4 protein was negatively correlated to Survival time, differentiation grade.Conclude:(1) The positive expression rate of notch4 protein was significantly higher in gastric cancer than in normal gastric tissue.(2) The expression of notch4 protein was negatively correlated to Survival time,differentiation grade.(Notch4 may be a novel prognostic marker of gastric cancer).
