A Randomised Controlled Study For Treating The Pain Of Cervical Spondylosis With Regulating Meridian & Zangfu Therapy By Acupuncture

ObjectiveTo assess the curative effect of Meridian-Harmonizing combined with Zangfu-organ regulating acupuncture in the management'of cervical spondylosis painMethodsSeventy cases with neck pain due to cervical spndylosis were recruited from the acupuncture out-patient of Guangdong Province Hospital of TCM. Using simple random method, participants are allocated into the treatment group and the control group randomly. In the control group, Jiaji(EX-B2), Dazhui(DU14), Jianzhongshu(SI15), Zhongzhu(SJ3) were selected;while the treatment group adds the abdomen acupoint with Zhongwan(RN12), Guanyuan(RN4), Shangqu(KI17), Huaroumen(ST24).Both group receive treatment every other day, three times per week,20 minutes ench timie, two weeks in total. The theraputic effect was evaluated by NPQ and VAS before and after the treatment. Paired T test was used to compare the therapeutic differences before and after the treatment, while chi-square test will be used to evaluate the therapeutic difference between the treatment group and the control group.Results1. There was no significant difference between two groups by gender, age, duration of disease and syndrome differentiation of TCM(P>0.05) on baseline.2. There was no significant difference between two groups by NPQ score and VAS score(P>0.05).3. NPQ scores declined significantly before and after the treatment in both groups (P<0.05), indicating two groups of treatment are both effective for neck pain due to cervical spondylosis. NPQ scores of the treatment group are significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05), which means that the therapeutic effect of the treatment group is better than the control group.4. After two weeks'treatment, the total effective rates of treatment group and control group are 93.55% and 91.18%, repectively. There was statistic differences between two groups in the total effective rate using Ridit analysis (P<0.05). There was statistic differences between two groups in the markly effective rate using Chi-square test (P<0.05)ConclusionThe study indicated that both groups can alleviate the clinical symptoms of neck pain due to cervical spondylosis. And the Meridian-Harmonizing combined with Zangfu-organ regulating acupuncture group has better therapeutic effect than the Meridian-Harmonizing acupuncture group. It's worthy in the clinical promotion and application.
