BackgroundAs China's aging of population increase, osteoporosis and its secondary fracture severely threaten old people's health and quality of life. Chinese medicine has its own advantages in preventing and curing osteoporosis, so there are the ever-increasing researches on this field. Diagnosis and treatment is the basic principle of Chinese medicine for recognizing and curing disease. Diagnosis is the premise and basis for treatment. Before treating, there should be accurate diagnosis of the disease. Therefore, it is of great importance for objective and scientific analysis of type of syndrome for osteoporosis.ObjectivesInvestigate and collect Chinese medicinal diagnosis information of primary osteoporosis in gerontal patients in Zhongshan; count and analysize distribution characteristics of Chinese medicinal type of syndrome; for the purpose of providing theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis of osteoporosis in gerontal patients and its health education.MethodsThe study is processed by the questionnaires of Chinese medicinal symptom of osteoporosis in gerontal patients. Through investigation, set up the frame of the four methods of diagnosis index databank, input the information and the count and analysize.ResultIn the total-215-number of Chinese medicinal types of syndromes in primary osteoporosis in gerontal patients is insufficiency of Kidney-Yang, insufficiency of Kidney-Yin, insufficiency of Spleen and Kidney-Yang, Qi insufficiency of Spleen and Stomach, insufficiency of Kidney-Yang and Yin, blood insufficiency of Spleen, insufficiency of Liver and Kidney, blood insufficiency of Liver. Bone density of lumbar in people aged from 80—89 is more risen than that of 70—79 (P<0.05). Male patient is mainly for insufficiency of Kidney-Yin, while female for insufficiency of Kidney-Yang (P=0.000<0.05). Bone density of lumbar and proximal femur of patients with insufficiency of Kidney-Yang is obviously lower than other types, which has statistical significance. Bone density of lumbar of patients with blood insufficiency of Liver is higher than other types.ConclusionChinese medicinal type of syndrome of primary osteoporosis in gerontal patients in Zhongshan is characteristic of insufficiency of Kidney-Yang and Kidney-Yin, insufficiency of Spleen and Kidney-Yang and Qi insufficiency of Spleen and Stomach. Female and male is mainly for insufficiency of Kidney. Male is mainly for insufficiency of Kidney-Yin; female for insufficiency of Kidney-Yang.
