Cerebral infarction (CI) is one of the commonly seen disease incident to old ages, which seriously affects the work, study, life and physiological and mental health of the patients. The relation between insulin resistance (IR) and cerebral vascular diseases at present has drawn much attention among the medical scholars. The relative studies indicated that the occurrence of IR is an inherent characteristic among the CI patients rather than caused by the complications of CI, which is a crucial independent risk factor and plays an important role during the process of occurrence and development throughout the whole progress of CI. It is crucial to prevent and treat IR and intervene at early phase, which could improve the sensitivity of the organism to insulin, prevent or prolong the occurrence of CI, decrease the occurrence rate, reoccurrence rate and fatality rate and enhance the quality of life of the patients. Hence, it is of significance to emphasize the research of IR and explore the more convenient and effective treatments. In the present study, moderate moxibustion plus acupuncture therapy was applied to improve the IR situation among the CI patients and the clinical efficacy was evaluated.Object iveIt was to explore the improvement of moderate moxibustion plus acupuncture therapy to the IR of CI patients. MethodsAll 60 CI cases which were accordance with the inclusive criteria were from the acupuncture ward and neural rehabilitation ward, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and randomized into treatment group and control group, with 30 cases in each group. In the treatment group, the moderate moxibustion plus acupuncture therapy was applied. In the control group, the simple acupuncture therapy was used. All the treatments were taken once every day and 10 treatments made up a therapeutic session. After 2 sessions, the therapeutic efficacy was observed and the indexes such as the index of sensitivity to insulin, NIHSS scores, Barthel index scores and the scores of therapeutic efficacy among TCM syndrome were assessed. With the statistical management with the SPSS 13.0, the therapeutic effects of the patients were comprehensively evaluated.Results①There was no significant difference of the ages, case courses, sexes, the scores of TCM therapeutic efficacy, NIHSS scores, Barthel index scores, FINS, FPG, among others, between the two groups (P>0.05).②The indexes of sensitivity to insulin were, to some extent, improved compared with before treatments in both two groups, with the indexes in the treatment group improved more than that in the control group, indicating that both the two therapies could remarkably improve the IR situation and the therapeutic efficacy in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group.③The neural function injury situation was, to some extent, improved compared with before treatments in both the two groups. The difference comparison of the NIHSS scores before and after treatments in the two groups with rank test indicated that P>0.05, showing that there was no significant difference of changes of NIHSS scores between the two groups.④The daily life ability of the patients in the two groups was, to some extent, improved compared with that before the treatments. The difference comparison of the Barthel index scores before and after treatments in the two groups with rank test indicated that P<0.05, showing that the therapeutic efficacy of the improvement of daily life ability in the treatment group was better than that in the control group.⑤The therapeutic efficacy of TCM syndromes of the patients in the two groups was, to some extent, improved compared with that before the treatments. The difference comparison of the therapeutic efficacy of TCM syndromes before and after treatments in the two groups with rank test indicated that P<0.05, showing that the therapeutic efficacy of the improvement of TCM syndromes in the treatment group had much more advantages.ConclusionModerate moxibustion plus acupuncture therapy has the definite short-term therapeutic efficacy in the improvement of IR, neural function injury, daily life ability and TCM syndromes among the CI patients. With the comparison of difference of IR, neural function injury, daily life ability therapeutic efficacy among TCM syndromes before and after the treatments in the two groups, it was thought that the therapeutic efficacy in the treatment group was better than that in the control group. Moderate moxibustion plus acupuncture therapy is accordance with the concept of simplicity, convenience and non-toxic-side effects in modern society, which is acceptable among the patients and is worthy of being further popularized in clinic.
