Objective:This research is to observe the curative effect on chronic cough of wind cold invasion due to spleen and kidney qi asthenia syndrome with Chinese traditional medicine of Zhi Sou Particles plus flavor. To evaluate the effect of this compound on ventilatory function, and look forward to fuether explore of the compound in patients with chronic cough of bronchrial responsiveness by checking Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) and the mutation rate (PEFR), provide effective basis of TCM therapy for chronic cough, in order to explore the influence and action mechanism for chronic cough.Methods:60 patients with chronic cough of wind cold invasion due to spleen and kidney qi asthenia syndrome are randomly divided into two groups of control group and treatment group,30 cases in each group. The control group accept the treatment of routine western medicine accordding to different causes of chronic cough. The treatment group take the Chinese medicine granules named Zhi Sou Particles plus flavor. Duration of treatment was 2 weeks. Statistic the integral of cough during daytime and nighttime before and after treatment. Check Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) during daytime and nighttime respectively, and calculate the mutation rate (PEFR) after a cure for the third day, the first week, the tenth day, the second week. Calulate the total score with Microsofe Excel 2003 and carry out statistic analysis with SPSS 17.0, apply Ridit, analysis T-Test, Pared Samples T-Test, One Way ANOVA to compare the difference of the effects between two groups, and the variations of peak expiratory flow (PEF) and the mutation rate (PEFR) before and after treatment.Results:1. After statistical analysis, two groups of patients with general information including gender, age, age composition, points of chronic cough symptoms, distribution of causes and Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) was no significant difference, comparable.2. Clinical therapeutic effect:Both groups were improved after treatment. In accordance with the cough symptom score calculated accordding to "Guide on Diagnosis and Treatment of Cough" of 2009, the two groups were statistically significant after treatment (P<0.01). Compared with two groups, the treatment group is better than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P< 0.01).Otherwise the curative effect between different diseases in the treatment group also have differences. The method of Chinese traditional medicine of Zhi Sou Particles combined western medicine therapy in cough variant asthmaand upper airway cough syndrome is especially prominent, both getting to the clinical expected effect.3. Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) and the mutation rate (PEFR):morning and evening Peak Expiratory Flow of both groups before and after treatment increase, and PEF variability decreased, both showing significant difference(P<0.05). Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF)increase more greatly in the treatment group, there has been a significant difference (P<0.05). And Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR)decreases greatly in the treatment group compared to control group, difference was statistically significant (P<0.05).So we can see that the effert of treatment group on increasing Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) and lowering Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) is more significant than the control group.Conclusion:1.Both method of Chinese traditional medicine of Zhi Sou Particles combined western medicine therapy and foundation treatment based on western medicine therapy were improved the symptom of chronic cough of wind cold invasion due to spleen and kidney qi asthenia syndrome. Compared to western medicine treatment, the Traditional Chinese medicine of Zhi Sou Particles combined western medicine treatment is more effective to patients with Chronic Cough.2. Treatting chronic cough of wind cold invasion due to spleen and kidney qi asthenia syndrome by Chinese traditional medicine of Zhi Sou Particles based on western medicine can be more significantly improved morning and evening Peak Expiratory Flow and reduced Peak Expiratory Flow Mutation Rate, more effectively in improving ventilatory function.3. This study found no Liver and Kidney function adverse events that traditional Chinese Medicine in clinical treatment of relatively safe, no significant side effects.
