Background The Burkholderia cepacia (Bc) is nonfermenting aerobic gram-negative bacteria recognized as one of important opportunistic pathogens that can easily cause lung infections in cystic fibrosis patients and chronic granulomatous disease, which result in asymptomatic carriage, chronic infection or cepacia syndrome. It is typically multi-drug resistant and is particularly difficult to eradicate from the lungs.Cases infected with Burkholderia cepacia besides CF and CG are growing more and more because of too much treatment with antimicrobial agents ,which induce pneumonia , septicaemia, wound infected, deeping abscess and urinary tract infections. Objective To investigate the change in drug resistance to 10 kinds of antimicrobial agents in Burkholderia cepacia strain and their resistant mechanism toβ- lactam antimicrobial agents for reference of clinical antimicrobial strategy. Methods Minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC) to 10 kinds of antimicrobial agents were detected by agar dilution method, Then, phenotype of metalloβ-lactamase were detected by EDTA-Na2 synergic screening method on agar palte and resistant genes toβ-lactamase were analyzed by PCR amplification. Results The highest resistant rate of Burkholderia cepacia is cefuroxime,upto73.9%,then,levofloxacin,aztreonam,chloramphenicol,meropenem,piperacillin/tazobactam,ceftazidime,minocycline,cefepime and cefoperazone/sulbactam were 71.6%, 67.2%, 60.6%,57.5%,47.5%,45.5%,42.0%,40.0% and 35.1% respectively; The positive rate of EDTA-Na2 synergic screening method is 56.5%; IMP gene 1 and VIM gene 1 of 7 kinds ofβ-lactamases were positive,OXA gene 10,OXA gene 23,OXA gene 24,DHA gene 1 and VIM gene 2 were negative. Conclusion Treatment should be guided by drug sensitivity test because the resistant rate of Burkholderia cepacia to many kinds of antimicrobial agents is higher. The exists of IMP gene 1 and VIM gene 1 are the important resistant mechanisms of Burkholderia cepacia toβ-lactam antimicrobial agents.
