Research Of Medical Calcium Sulfate Osteoset In The Role Of Reconstructing Raw Bone Defects

Objective:For critical size defect(CSD) due to trauma,infection,congenitality or tumor, it's necessary to reconstruct the defect. This research applied calcium sulfate OSTEOSET for medical use to jawbone's defect, and observed the effects which calcium sulfate OSTEOSET plays ,then offered the related groundwork and conclusion for calsium sulfate Osteoset for reconstructing the CSD.Methods:1.Experiment study: To select 4 adult dogs as experiment objects. And both mandibular's side were formed into the critical bone defections(20mm*10mm*3mm). Adopting oneself matched-pairs design, the left side defection area were placed with the calcium sulfate Osteoset while the right placed with hydroxyapatite granule. After the operation 4,8 weeks respectively, the dogs were executed and received the clinical observation, X-ray, environmental scanning, electron microscopy, histological examina.2.Clinical study: From jan.2010 to dec. 2010, 9 jaws defected patients(4 men and 5 women) were applied with calcium sulfate Osteosetfor organizational reconstructing. They had been visited for 6 months, and the wound healing and the graft were observed and checked by the X-ray.Results: 1. Experiment study: dogs were all alive during observation period. Experimental group appears a slightly swollenness but no infection and wound open 3 days after operation. One weeks later the swelling resolved. Through the X-ray and the Histopathologic observation, the experimental sides appeared better in quicker infilling absorption, obviously contraction, more mature bone tissue compared with macthed group.2.clinical study: the 9 patients were all follow-up visited. The CSDs recovered better and the donor sites showed not abnormal or dysfunction. Showed by the X-RAY, the infilling material were all basically absorbed 3 months later, and the density of the bone was higher than the preoperation. The operative incisions of the 9 patients were primary healing, and 1 patient's mucosa near radices dentis were raw surface and had exudates and inflammation 1 months after operation. After 6 weeks's root canal therapy and flushing the bandage, the wound healed.Conclusion: Two sets of case for report, the animals and the patients filled with the bone defection after the surgery all got good images,exercised better mastication function, but the CSDs near radices dentis reconctructed slower or even could't reconctruct than other CSD.
