Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics, prognostic factors, diagnosis and treatment of primary thyroid lymphoma(PTL).Methods:On the basis of relevant literatures, the clinical data of 12 patients with PTL in our hospital from January 1999 to December 2008 were analyzed and reiewed retrospectively. Results:There were total 12 PTL patients, included 3 male and 9 female, whose medianage age were 58.5 (47 to 77). All patients presented neck mass and received surgical operation. Pathologic diagnosis were confirmed as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: 11 patients suffered from B cell lymphoma, got follow-up and survived;one suffered from T cell lymphoma and lost follow-up after palliative operation. According to Ann Arbor staging system, there were 7 in stage 1,5 stageâ…¡. Among the patients in stage I, 3 patients only received operation, with their disease-free survival time for 53,39,36 months respectively. One received chemotherapy after operation with disease-free survival time for 36 months.3 patients were supplemented with chemotherapy and radiotherapy with their disease-free survival time for 114,46,33 months respectively. Among the patients in stageâ…¡, four patients were supplemented with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.2 received extensive resection, the disease-free survival time for the former were 40,33 months, the latter were both 35 months. Conclusions:PTL patients always present painless neck mass, without characteristic clinical manifestation. The diagnosis of PTL depends on pathology though operation or fine needle aspiration. Most of PTL is B cell lymphoma. The patients in stage I can be treated by operation or plus multidisciplinary combined therapy. The patients in stage II should be treated with multidisciplinary combined therapy, patients can be treated with palliative operation if sufferring from serious compression symptoms. PTL patients have good prognosis, which is correlated with age, pathologic type and the staging of tumor.
