Objective To investigate the effect of digital flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy for renal calculi, compared with percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Methods From May 2008 to December 2009, 83 patients were diagnosed as renal calculi, 61 cases of PCNL group were performed percutaneous nephrolithotomy, and 20 cases of DURL group were performed digital flexible ureteroscopic lithotripsy. Results The average operation time was (45.3±10.4) minutes vs (58.7±12.7)minutes (P=1.131), the postoperative stay was(4.8±1.8)d vs (3.2±1.3)d (P=0.000), and the stone-free rate was 95%(58/61)vs 91%(18/20)(P=0.855) in six month postoperation, In PCNL group and DURL group respectively。Besides of postoperative stay and complication rate(p<0.05), there was no statistic difference between the two groups. Conclusion Although PCNL is recommended as an effective treatment for renal calculi, the digital flexible ?ureteroscopy with Ho:YAG is an effective and safe treatment modality, especially for renal calculi less than 20mm, and those who had morbid obeses or with bleeding diathesis. For the diameters of the renal stones from 20mm to 30mm,it should be considered its relative indication.
