| Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Guben Yaoshen(GBYS) plaster in treating hyperostosis of lumbar vertebrae (syndrome of deficiency of kidney- YANG).Methods: The present study was designed as a randomized, double- blinded and placebo-paralleled trail. 120 Patients with hyperostosis of lumbar vertebrae were divided into treatment group (60 cases) and control group (60 cases) randomly, who received Guben Yaoshen plaster and placebo respectively at the same dose (2 pieces, qN) for two weeks.Result: Both groups could improve the single entry symptom after treatment for two weeks. The total effect rate was 88.14% in the treatment group, while 38.33% in the control group. The effect rate in treatment group was better than that in the control group, and the difference between two groups was significant (P<0.05). No severe side effects were found in both groups.Conclusion: The clinical trial showed that GBYS plaster is effective and safe in the treatment of hyperostosis of lumbar vertebrae.
