Objective To study the relationships between vasovagal syncope (VVS) children's age, sex, history of syncope, clinical manifestations, family history of syncope and the results of HUTT, in order to investigate the predictive value of the clinical features in the result of HUTT of children. Methods Two hundred and twenty-six children age from 4 to 17 years old who came from specialist syncope out-patient department or in-patient department of the Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University in January 2009-December 2009 with unexplained syncope, dizziness, headache or palpitation were collected their clinical features (including age, sex, history of syncope, clinical manifestations and family history of syncope) which might affect the results of the HUTT, and then underwent HUTT. Count data were conductedχ2 test or Fisher exact test in SPSS 16.0 software, and clinical features of significant conditions were conducted Logistic regression analysis.Results①HUTT-positive group included 124 children, HUTT-negative group included 102 children. HUTT-positive group's common clinical manifestations were dizziness or headache (67.74%), syncope (44.35%), chest tightness (25%) and pale (12.9%). HUTT-negative group' s common clinical manifestations were dizziness or headache (68.65%), syncope (21.56%), chest (16.67%) and pale (10.78%). Among 124 HUTT-positive children,27 were BHUT (20 were vaso-depressor,7 were mixed response),97 were SHNUT (86 were vasodepressor,11 were mixed response).③> 12-year-old group's HUTT positive rate was significantly higher than that of≤12-year-old group's (P<0.005). Female group's HUTT positive rate was significantly higher than that of male group's (P<0.05). HUTT positive rate of children who had history of syncope was significantly higher than children who did not have history of syncope (P<0.05). HUTT positive rate among 1-2 times history of syncope group,3-4 times history of syncope group and 5-10 times history of syncope group were not significantly different (P>0.05). HUTT positive rate of children who had a family history of syncope was significantly higher than that of children who did not have a family history of syncope (P<0.01).④According to Logistic regression analysis, clinical features which significantly affecting the results of HUTT were age, family history of syncope and history of syncope. Conclusion According to Univariate analysis, sex, age, history of syncope, family history of syncope have predictive value in the result of HUTT of children. According to Logistic regression analysis, clinical features which significantly affecting the results of HUTT were age, family history of syncope and history of syncope.
