Objective:To investigate the relation of microembolic signals (MESs) in symptomatic carotid artery stenosis with degree of stenosis, ultrasonic characteristics of plaques, PSV(peak systolic velocity) and stroke risk factors.Method:52 patients with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis underwent MES monitoring for 1h within bilateral MCA by TCD and carotid artery Doppler ultrasound detecting.Result:In 28.8% of the patients, we detected MESs by TCD within the MCA on the symptomatic side, but only 4.5% on the corresponding asymptomatic side (P<0.05). No correlation was found between MES with degree of stenosis, and ultrasonic characteristics of plaques, and PSV(peak systolic velocity), and stroke risk factors. Conclusion:MESs happen significantly more often on symptomatic side, closed with unstable plaques.
