ObjectiveTo investigate the method and application values of reconstructing three dimensional(3D) digital models of craniofacial structures based on the data of helical CT scanning; To establish a 3D digital virtual surgical platform, and realize maxillofacial plastic surgical simulation and preoperative diagnosis and quantitative design of surgical procedures.Methods1. Studies on the craniofacial 3D reconstruction based on the data of helical CT scanograHelical CT strengthening scan images from a healthy volunteer in DICOM(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) format were imported into Mimics10.01(Materialise's Interactive Medical Image Control System) software, and craniofacial structures were reconstructed with the techniques of thresholding, editing and 3D Region Growing.2. Studies on the virtual surgery based on the data of helical CT scanograThe spiral CT scans of a patient with chin retrusion and maxillary protrusion were obtained and the CT data in DICOM format was imported into Mimics10.01software, then the 3D digital models of craniofacial bones and soft tissue were established through reconstruction. The procedures of virtual osteotomy were performed on the virtual surgical platform, and postoperative change of soft tissue was predicted based on the change of osteotomy.Results1. Studies on the craniofacial 3D reconstruction based on the data of helical CT scanograThe 3D digital models of craniofacial structures were obtained. These models could be zoomed and rotated randomly and displayed the spatial positions and adjacent relationships of different anatomical structures, also the reconstructed structures could be measured in 3D space.2. Studies on the virtual surgery based on the data of helical CT scanograLeFort I osteotomy, Bilateral Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy (BSSRO) and Genioplasty were performed on 3D digital models of craniofacial bones. Various data while simulating mandibular retrusion and maxillary protrusion were applied to optimize the occlusion, then prediction of soft tissue was acquired and the optimal surgical scheme was designed.Conclusions1. Studies on the craniofacial 3D reconstruction based on the data of helical CT scanograThe 3D digital models of craniofacial structures can be reconstructed conveniently and quickly with Mimics software on PC, and also it can bring morphological reference to human anatomy teaching, neurosurgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery as well as image diagnosis, and will be helpful to establish a virtual platform in craniofacial surgery.2. Studies on the virtual surgery based on the data of helical CT scanograVirtual surgery can integrate various medical imaging data rapidly, and the outcome of treatment for craniofacial deformity can be predicted; it promotes the communication and cooperation between patients and doctors, and provides practical and effective techniques and scientific basis for establishing the preoperative planning of individual optimal procedure in orthognathic surgery. |
