Objective:To comparison of the effects of functional recovery and nerve regeneration after the peripheral nerve single end-to-side neurorrhaphy and double end-to-end neurorrhaphy and autologous nerve transplantation so as to give a new ideas for the treatment of nerve defect in clinic.Methods:60 male SD rats of whose were randomly divided into 3 groups.10mm segment was cut off on the right peroneal nerves. In group A, the nerve defects were bridged with autologous nerve graft. In group B, the distal peroneal nerve ends was sutured to a epineurium window of the tibial nerve, the proximate stump was reversed and sutured to the adjacent musculature. In group C, both ends of it were sutured end-to-side with tibial nerve by above fashion. Evaluation included gait analysis by calculation of a peroneal functional index, ultrastructural, electrophysiological and histolgicical examination.Result:Regeneration of common peroneal nerve occurred in every groups after surgery. The motor nerve conduction velocity, compound muscle action potential, axon numbers, and peroneal functional index(PFI) in group A or C is significantly better than in group B 20 weeks after surgery. There are no significant difference in group A and C. The tibial functional index(TFI) in all group are no significant difference.Conclusion:1.The quality of regenerating nerve fibers after double end-to-side neurorrhaphy was superior to that after only distal end was used, there was no significant difference in double end-to-side neurorrhaphy and autologous nerve transplantation; 2.The end-to-side neurorrhaphy do not impact palpably the function of donator.
