Objective:To obtain a basic characters of prevention and treatment for metabolic syndrome and study the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of metabolic syndrome related diseases in active staff of Dagang oil field.Method:The complete physical examination, blood biochemical tests and the data integrity in the Dagang Oil Field General Hospital medical center physical examination personnel was taken in enrolled 3 269 persons. Metabolic syndrome was defined according to diagnostic criteria of 2004 Chinese Diabetes Society (CDS). Cadres, managers, doctors, teachers were classified in the group of white-collar workers, while ordinary workers and long-term field workers were classified in the group of blue-collar workers. Prevalence of MS, its related diseases and differences of lifestyle were compared between the two groups. The relation with education level, income and marital status was also analyzed. Multiple logistic regression analysis was done to find out risk factors for metabolic syndrome. The prevalence of coronary heart disease and stroke was compared between the MS group and non-MS group.Results:1. According to the diagnostic criteria of CDS, the prevalence of MS in active staff among 20 to 60 years old in Dagang oil field was 7.89%, in which the prevalence of MS in male and female were 13.84% and 2.26%. The prevalence of male and female differences was statistically significant (P<0.05).2. The differences between MS group and non-MS group of major physical examination and biochemical indicators in the all crowd were statistically significant (P<0.05). Except high-density lipoprotein in MS group was lower than that in the non-MS group, the rest of the indictors in MS group were all higher than that in non-MS group.3. Compared the lifestyle with non-MS group, the rates of drinking, high-salt diet, snoring, eating greasy food and fast eating in MS group were higher than that in non-MS group, eating fruits in MS group was fewer than that in non-MS group (P< 0.05).4. The prevalence of MS, overweight/obesity, hypertension, lipid disorders and high blood sugar increased with age (P< 0.05), but the prevalence of dyslipidemia of female in age was no significant difference (P= 0.091). In the different types of MS, the ratio of "overweight/obesity+hypertension+dyslipidemia" group was highest at 4.10% and there were statistically significant differences among other groups (P< 0.05).5. The prevalence of MS in white color workers and overweight/obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemia and high blood sugar was lower than that in blue color workers (P< 0.05).6. Logistic regression analysis showed that age, total cholesterol and uric acid may be independent risk factors for MS.7. The prevalence of coronary heart disease and stroke was higher in MS group than that in non-MS group (P< 0.05). The prevalence of coronary heart disease in MS group was 3.5 folds of that in non-MS group and of stroke in MS group was 14.9 times of that in non-MS.Conclusion:1. The prevalence of MS and related diseases in active staff of Dagang oil field is lower than that in the report from other regions, but the prevalence of MS in men was far from optimistic. It is necessary for us to study the preventive and therapeutic strategies for high-risk group of MS.2. Unhealthy lifestyles, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, high-salt diet, snoring, eating greasy food and fast eating, may be causes of MS;3. The obesity is an important and characteristic manifestation in MS.4. Age, total cholesterol and uric acid may be independent risk factors for MS.5. It should pay attention to that MS can increase the risk of Cardio-cerebral vascular diseases.
