| ObjectivesTo study affective factors on nurses'emotional intelligence, and to discuss their effect on job stressors and job satisfaction, the level of emotional intelligence of nurses in Hengyang City are analyzed.MethodsConvenient sample of cluster was used to survey nurses who have been in 4 tertiary hospitals of Hengyang City. Seven hundreds and seventy-nine nurses were asked to answer the questionnaires. The statistical description, t test, correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis on the collected data were made.Results(1)The score's range of emotional intelligence for the nurses was from 59 to 129, and its average score was 94.81±12.24, the total divided into 3.51±0.45. In the five dimensions about emotional intelligence, the highest score was for business relationships (3.74±0.62), the following was respectively aware of their emotion (3.63±0.73), self-motivation (3.47±0.66), identifying others emotions (3.33±0.73), and management emotions(3.19±0.67).(2)The average score for the nurses'occupational stressors was 88.20±16.13. According to the scores from higher to lower, it was respectively the workload and time allocation (2.82±0.71), working environment and resources issues(2.80±0.76), nursing professional and work issues(2.71±0.65), patient care(2.55±0.53), management and interpersonal business(2.08±0.58). The different of scores about age, marital status, occupation, career age, which also took the parts on the occupational stressors, was statistical significance(P<0.001). (3)The average score about job satisfaction was 111.21±10.70. According to the scores of the dimensions about emotional intelligence from higher to lower, it was respectively the promotion (13.97±2.83), communication (13.02±2.21), colleagues (12.66±1.99), job procedures (12.65±2.18), the leader(12.47±2.56), income (12.13±2.07), award (11.64±2.08), welfare (11.48±2.15), nature of the work(11.18±2.69). The different of scores about education, professional title, marital satisfaction on job satisfaction was statistics significance(P<0.05).(4) The nurses'occupational stressor was negatively correlated to emotional intelligence, the correlation coefficiency was from-0.073 to -0.206. The nurses'emotional intelligence was positively correlated to job satisfaction in the promotion, leadership, incentives, nature of work and communication, the correlation coefficiency was from 0.074 to 0.243.(5) Communication, the nursing profession and work issues, promotion, education, work procedures had predictive power on emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence, it could explain 11.4% of the variance.Conclusion( 1 ) Communication, the leader, promotion, management and interpersonal business, on nurses emotional intelligence are predictable.(2) The higher emotional intelligence for the nurses, the lower job pressure and higher job satisfaction.(3)The score of emotional intelligence for the nurses, who work in 4 tertiary hospitals of Hengyang city, is at a medium level. |
