In the Dramatic history of the twentieth century,Cao Yu and Eugene O'Neil were the pioneers of modern drama in China and the United States.The macro level, they play similar aesthetics on the tragedy, in the tragic concept,characters, methods, all have similar ways to pursue. Specifically, their temperament is typical of the dramatic poet, they have suffered the trauma from theirl families in their childhood, and both are fans of ancient Greek drama, or drama master Ibsen's disciples. They will experience their lives into their play characters, who naked to show "human" face survival difficulties and soul of the helpless and struggling, constantly ask so much of the eternal destiny and the mysterious power throughout the universe,and stick to write "person" eternal tragedy. Their creative spirits embody the common trend of dramatic literature.Thus, their play also highlights a number of comparability.With the rise of comparative literature studies, a growing number of scholars took note of the relationship between the two playwrights, and from different perspectives are always comparing study to them. In this paper, drawing on the basis of previous research, to be adopted in the parallel study of comparative literature approach, with people compared as the base point, and then on Cao Yu, Eugene ? O'Neal's individual life and the spiritual world to explore in-depth and detailed.In this paper, a comprehensive view of the two playwrights and features all play characters based on the playwright to find the spirit of the individual's internal source of conflict, and described by people into their "success" type, between the color type, poet Type three categories for comparison. The one hand, by focusing on the similarities between the playwrights characters of CaoYu and O'Neill, digs out the two writers in the spirit of the similarities in temperament and character exhibited by the Sino-US cultural exchange and communication; the other hand, as a mirror to O'Neill's characters and them reflected in the cultural codes, find out the features of the national originality on Cao Yu and his play characters in China and world Dramatic Literature field, and then tap the two writers of the spiritual, cultural differences.
