Literary translation is a kind of activity to reproduce the content and the style of the original text in another language faithfully. The combination of aesthetics and translation theories is translation aesthetics. It places emphasis on the artistic reproduction of the original works. The translation theories both in the orient and in the west have"philosophic-aesthetics''origins. Tytler put forward"three principles of translation". While in China, translation and philosophic-aesthetics are closely related, from source-text orientation to sublimation. Modern aesthetic translation has set up a relatively complete system of aesthetics, including aesthetic subject, aesthetic object, and aesthetic activities and so on.Fu Sheng Liu Ji is the masterpiece of Shen Fu, who was the famous writer in the Qing Dynasty. This book describes the writer and his wife's marriage life and their travels. The book reflects the comfortable and carefree attitude towards life in Chinese culture, which belongs to"literature of natural disposition and intelligence". Lin Yutang is a famous writer and translator in modern China. He posed"three translation standards", namely,"faithfulness, smoothness and beautifulness". Liu Miqing is a famous theorist in translation, who set up the framework of aesthetic translation on the basis of aesthetic theories. In his An Introduction to Translation Aesthetics, he advanced standards and strategies of representation for different literary forms, which can be as guidance for translation activities.This thesis firstly reviews the history of translation, aesthetic translation and modern aesthetic translation theories. This thesis puts Liu Miqing's An Introduction to Translation Aesthetics as the theoretical foundation. The thesis analyzes Lin's translated version of Six Chapters of a Floating Life through concrete data analysis. The analysis expounds how Lin's version achieves aesthetic representation from the aspects of language, style and culture. Lin's version provides us with a typical and perfect example of aesthetic representation, which can guide the Chinese-English translation. Lin's unique experience and good command of the two languages make him a qualified translator. This thesis also ventures to analyze the translator's quality and how to improve the translator's quality to achieve aesthetic representation.
