Study On The Pictographic Characters

Pictograph inscribed on the earliest history of the development produced a text, also is a character type of the best embodiment on Chinese meaning expression nature, and plays an irreplaceable role in the establishment of the Chinese system. In this paper, the author played the pictographs as the main object of study , and worked in historical research of dynamic and static studying in the various stages of development on the Chinese characters, the first time studying to reveal the historical status and evolution of the pictographs in the systematic comparative.This paper is composed of four parts: The preface expounded mainly the value of researching on pictographs , and to illustrate methods of researching on the subject,and to instructe the criteria of differentiating pictographs and selecting methods on studyed materials for the specific studying of various stages of pictographs foundation.from chapter 2 to chapter 4, the discipline of evoluting on the featuers of configuration and compounds analysis topictograph of Inscription on Bones and Tortoise Shell ,XiaoZhuan pictographs ,pictographs after Libian were discussed ; the same time, the auther described the development of these pictographs as part of configuration in their respective stages by the statistical method.These studies revealed in the evolution law on the configuration and compounds analysis of pictographs.Specifically, according to aspects of the the configuration is the evolution law from the amorphous to the setting and from stroke meaning to stroke orientation and from complex to simple variation; the compounds analysis showed the signifying trend on the connection between their form and meaning;and revealed to pictographs plays as the special status in structural system of the whole character, that the pictographs as the first Chinese characters type to create, is the base to create other characters, also is the most important basic materials in the Chinese character structure system, this basic position in the history of the character development of pictographs changed scarely, and is always the basic elements of configuration of other characters.
