The first part analyzes the subjective and objective factors of Andrew's reconstruction. The subjective factors lie in Andrew's personal experience and racial discrimination. The objective factors mainly lie in the domestic situation after the civil war and Lincoln's reconstruction policy. The second part introduces Andrew's reconstruction though. As the ideology and faith, it was the succession and development to the reconstruction thought of Lincoln."Amnesty Declaration", enacted in 1865, was an important embodiment of reconstruction thought. In part3, Andrew's thought is described in detail. In this period, Andrew tried his best to safeguard the unity of the country by rehabilitating direct connection and compromising contradiction between north and south. Part4 mainly expounds problems that appeared during this time, including differences and contradictions between president and congress. Part5 analyzes the influences and evaluation of Andrew's reconstruction thought. Because of his tolerance, the south can be rebuilt quickly. And thanks for his tolerance, the hatred which lies in North-South was swept and the south states gradually trusted the USA. In the civil war, it was tolerance which the victor gives losers that protected American unity against injury. However, there are some defects in his thoughts.
