A Study On Translator's Subjectivity In English Versions Of Teahouse From George Steiner's Hermeneutic Perspective

The traditional translation theories view"fidelity"and"equivalence"as the standards to judge translated texts, and place the translator, subject of translation activity, in a marginal status, thus ignoring the subjective dynamic role of the translator in the process of translation. With the"cultural turn"in translation studies in the 1970s and 1980s, the role and the status of the translator have attracted more and more attention of translation theorists, and the study on the translator's subjectivity has become a heated topic in translation studies.As a theory of understanding and interpreting of the meaning, hermeneutics provides a new theoretical perspective for the study of the translator's subjectivity. The thesis studies the manifestation of the translator's subjectivity in the translations of Lao She's outstanding work Teahouse from the perspective of hermeneutics, especially from George Steiner's hermeneutic translation motion theory, including trust, aggression, incorporation and compensation, from which it illustrates that translation is the process in which translator understands and interprets the original text initiatively, and the translator's subjectivity plays a decisive role in the process of translation practice.
