Comprehensive input means that students should be able to understand the essence of what is being said or presented to them. Language learners can't acquire language if they don't receive comprehensible input. SIOP stands for sheltered instruction observation protocol. It is good teaching plus purposeful teaching of the language necessary for Ells to understand content. When content is comprehensible, students understand most aspects of what is required for leaning, and the learning experience pushes them to greater understanding. In this way the students'overall competence of using L2 will be improved. The present study tries to answer the following research questions:A. How does comprehensible input influence L2 learning?B. How do we use the SIOP Model to facilitate L2 teaching? What are the features contribute to an excellent class?The research methodology of the present study includes class observation and interviews. The above two research questions are closely related to each other. The results of the research show that the Chinese speaking English learners'understanding of what is a good class for them when it comes to speech appropriate for students'proficiency level, clear explanation of academic tasks, and a variety of techniques used. Since students are culturally and linguistically diverse, teachers need to combine their own instructional strategies with the SIOP Model to design and deliver sheltered instruction that attend to the academic and linguistic need of the students.The teaching strategies when we combine comprehensive input with SIOP Model in L2 classroom, include provide ample opportunities for students to use learning strategies; consistent use of scaffolding techniques throughout the lesson; use of a variety of question types which include those that promote higher level thinking skills.
