Adopting the method of origin literature analysis, this paper studies the compilation and publication of Summary of Foreign Events as well as the spread of socialism, western economics, science and technology in the periodical. By retrieving the photocopies of original documents of the 108 volumes in 1,330 journals which were suspected from 1873 to 1900, this research proposes 8129 titles for the message in the first 36 volumes in 428 journals, and it also reexamines the compilation and publication, compilation communication strategies, communication contents of the journal, with the focus being put on the economic news, technological news and social news. Therefore, the thesis attempts to clarify the journal's development trail in the history of China's journalism and communication and the history of China's science and technology communication.
