This work was taking the Ming dynasty and Qing dynasty which are two historical periods as the research background, the gourd-shaped vases through unearthed and the gourd-shaped vases in the main museums as research object, the gourd-shaped vases of different varieties from plastic arts and decorative patterns, comparative studies of style causes was investigated . In this paper the gourd-shaped vase of unearthed artifacts before the Ming dynasty was introduced firstly in origin and the development of gourd-shaped vase. Then according to the process features of China's history and characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties classifying and staging, mainly divides the gourd-shaped vases into four times: early or middle Ming dynasty, the later Ming dynasty, the early or middle Qing dynasty, the later Qing dynasty. The gourd-shaped vases modeling, adornment characteristic mainly discusses.
