At the contemporary time of reform and opening-up, ceramic sculpture, being an important part of the Chinese ceramic arts, while carrying forward the essence of traditional ceramic arts is developing quickly. But due to the strike of philosophy of western modern art and the influence of industrialization, marketization and modernization of China, the traditional Chinese ideology and culture and art spirit are constantly undermined. The contemporary ceramic sculpture artist can not find the root of national art spirit, thus losing the value orientation and art pursuit which the native artists are supposed to have. Art spirit is an important part of the national spirit, which in turn is the spirit drive to nation's further development.Only we inherit and promote the spirit of Chinese, can we create works of art of national spirituality and character? The culture concept and art spirit of China are self-inherited, the essence will come down in one continuous line in whatever times.Lifelikeness is the highest pursuit of national art spirit, and it was also fully embodied on works of ancient ceramic sculpture. Lifelikeness is still something pursuit and held in esteem by modern artists and has strong vitality. In their process of creation, the contemporary artists assimilate and make use of the art spirit of lifelikeness mainly in three aspects: aesthetic pursuit metaphysically; innovation thinking in imagery; skill training in expressive force. Through this way, they will impart expressive form and vitality to the ceramic sculpture in new times and create fine works of art brimmed with time spirit and national flavor, thus establishing the native art style and contribute to the development of Chinese culture.
