Natural disasters has always been a major threat to human society. Natural disasters of Guangzhou frequently happened in Qing Dynasty. Disasters were closely related to the Guangzhou's topographical features, climatic conditions and other natural factors. But human's disharmony social activities also were the key factor to frequent occurrence of natural disasters.Guangzhou's economic rapidly developed in Qing Dynasty. Smelting, shipbuilding and other industrial developed. Because of rapid population growth, a large number of land had been cleared out. The development of the economy inevitably led to the destruction of the ecological environment, and because of the war between Ming and Qing Dynasties, piracy and the invasion of foreign forces in the late Qing and official corruption weakened capacity of the Guangzhou government's disaster resistance.Natural disasters caused great damage to Guangzhou society. such as population brought casualties, property damage, social unrest and other negative consequences. In order to combat natural disasters, the Guangzhou government built many water conservation project, constructed storage and afforestation. Government and civil society in the Qing Dynasty also established a series of methods and measures to deal with disasters. The Government had taken in response to Juan disaster relief, compensation, trade, Ping Tiao and other measures, non-governmental forces are also actively involved in relief work. In the spiritual realm, To deal with disasters, the Qing Guangzhou society also formed a unique culture of ritual and folk beliefs.
