Research On Zhejiang Tung-Oil Trade Before And After Anti-Japanese War (From 1927 To 1946)

Tung Oil Trade in Zhejiang Province had experienced three stages, booming rise of free trade in folk before Anti-Japanese War,controlling trade in war-time,and falling free trade after Anti-Japanese War, It showed different characteristics in three stages. Before the war, the production of the Tung Oil in Zhejiang stayed among the highest in the country, and the Tung Oil was written-off to Shanghai and the market at home and abroad through the distribution centers in province, its distribution lines, price changes and trading system changed according to the market. Part of Zhejiang Province falled in wartime, the Japanese occupiers and the National Government fought for tung oil because of its strategic role, and both of them strengthened the control of this industry. Meanwhile, due to the impact of the war situation, the style of the tung oil transport produced great change. Hangzhou is the largest concentration market of the Tung oil in Zhejiang, and it replaced by Wenzhou. Shanghai was the sale center of Tung oil before war, and the tung oil in Zhejiang were almost saled to Hongkong in wartime.Not only at free trade period but also at wartime control period, Zhejiang provincial government had made due contributions to its Tung-Oil trade. In these two periods, Zhejiang provincial government had played support role. It also solved Tung-oil'large slow-moving problem basically which is caused by Shanghai and Hangzhou's falling into enemy's hands successively, especially at the war of resistance against Japan's early time. As folk special trade, it needed the government's support. Because numerous powers'support, Tung-oil trade in Zhejiang could develop forward, such as Shanghai oil traders, financial authorities. Besides, Zhejiang special trade couldn't do without its natural environment and developed transportation before the war.The Tung oil industry in Zhejiang switched between free trade and industry control, the force of the government and the market changed in the industry trading system. As the control of the resource-based products, free trade was controlled by control policy, which affected the market price and the transaction greatly. The political and military situation intervented into the transportation network directly, also made the trading position shift. It can be to say that the control of government had great influence on the market operation of tung oil.
