A Comparative Study On The Translation Of The Culture-loaded Words In The Two English Versions Of The True Story Of Ah Q

The 21^st century is a golden age of the rapid development of the world economy and culture. The international exchange and cooperation is increasingly frequent. Translation, as a bridge of the cross cultural communication, plays a great important role in our social life. From entering the 21^st century, the focus of translation study has shifted from linguistic respective to cultural factors. People have paid more and more attention to the handling of the cultural factors in translation. Nowadays, the cultural communication has been the mainstream of the translation. So, the translating of the culture-loaded words and expressions is of great importance, which can effectively enhance the cross cultural communication. There are a great many of culture-loaded words and expressions in Lu Xun's novel----The True Story of Ah Q, which is the feature of his novel. Those culture-loaded words and expressions can reflect our Chinese national culture faithfully, but it also brings some difficulties and obstacles to the cross cultural communication. Thus, it is significant to discuss and analyze the methods and strategies of translation. When translating the culture-loaded words and expressions, the translator should choose the right methods and strategies under the general principle of cultural faithfulness. Mainly, foreignazition and domestication are the two methods in the translation of the culture-loaded words and expressions. Domestication requires the translator not to disturb the readers as much as possible, but make the move closer to the readers. However, foreignazition requires the translator not to disturb the author as much as possible, but make the move closer to the author. In the translating practice, these two methods should complement each other.This thesis is to analyze and study the translating strategies of the culture-loaded words and expressions in the two famous English versions of The True Story of Ah Q. It generally consists of six chapters. Chapter one is the Introduction of the thesis. Its content includes the studying purpose and significance, the present situation of study, the main content and innovation of the thesis and the structure of the thesis. Chapter two mainly introduces language, culture, translation and the close relationship among them. Chapter three generally describes the definition of the culture-loaded words and and their five classifications. Chapter four introduces the selection of the translating strategies in translating the culture-loaded words of the two famous English versions separarely. Chapter five is to analyze and study the specific application of the translating strategies under the guidance of domestication and foreignazition in translating the culture-loaded words in The True Story of Ah Q. The last chapter is the Conclusion of the thesis and it summarizes the whole thesis. Chapter three, Chapter four and Chapter five are the body part of the thesis.
